The Cardiff Wine Lover’s Gift Guide 2023

Stumped for what to buy for your wine-loving pals this Christmas?

We’ve got your back! This little list of wine-filled goodness features gift ideas from some of our favourite, independent businesses based in and around Cardiff.

  1. The Nighthawks Christmas Hamper (£50)

Make this gift your own by picking from a bottle of red or white wine, four craft beers or a bottle of champagne - plus 200g of artisan cheese from Ty Caws, a six-pack of Fabulous welshcakes, a large jar of the unbelieveable chutney served with all Nighthawks toasties (#IYKYK), and a stylish Nighthawks tote bag.

  2. The Mistletoe & Wined & Grind Box, Chilled & Tannin (£40)

You’ll get two sustainable wines - and thanks to a collab with Little Man Coffee - two 250g bags of premium coffee from a roster of over 25 indie roasters (pop a message in the order notes if you want your coffee ground, or as whole beans) - plus, it can all be delivered via Chilled & Tannin’s Carbon Neutral delivery service.

  3. The Spanish Wine Club Membership, Spanish Wines Online (£35 per month)

Pay £35 a month, via direct debit, and every quarter you’ll be sent a case of 12 white, red or mixed Spanish wines of your choosing - many of the same wines you find on the menu at Curado Bar. A great way to experiment with new wines and support smaller winemakers.

  4. Scott Base Terra Nova, Marlborough NZ Pinot Noir, Fine Wines Direct (£17.99 )

This Pinot Noir is perfect for the Christmas table, with aromas of spice, currant, and dark Ghana chocolate. A juicy cherry mouthfeel matches perfectly with the grippy bitterness of the dark cocoa. A long and luxurious feel on the palate will happily sit alongside roast turkey and the multitude of festive trimmings.

  5. The Wine & Coffee Tee, Sibling (£25)

With the Sibling logo on the front, and a large format hand-drawn bottle and cup illustration on the back. These tees are hand screen printed in Cardiff, and made from organic ecru cotton.

  6. The Pinot Noir Gin, Silver Circle Distillery (£45)

Silver Circle Distillery and The Dell Vineyard have come together to create Y Gwyllgi, a Pinot Noir Gin that uses the beautiful leftover skins, pulp and seeds from the winemaking process combined with the wild flavours of foraged Wye Valley botanicals. Named after a Welsh mythical beast who appears at twilight, Y Gwyllgi is a juicy and naturally hazy gin made for mixing in a Negroni or adding to tonic for a festive G&T.

  7. The Candle, Cava & Cookbook, Mercado 44 (£32.50)

A gorgeous handmade scented candle, a bottle of Vilarnau Limited Edition Gold Brut Cava and a hardback copy of the Bar 44 Cookbook.  This one’s an absolute bargain!

And finally…

8. A Cardiff Wine Passport Gift Voucher (£25 / £50)

Treat you or your loved ones to a CWP gift voucher, and use it to purchase a 2024 Cardiff Wine Passport in the new year. We’ll be running a few different passports next year, and the vouchers will be valid to redeem online against any (within the 12 month redemption period).
