The Cardiff Wine Lover’s Gift Guide

Stumped for what to buy for your wine-loving pals this Christmas? We’ve got your back! This little list of wine-filled goodness features gift ideas from some of our favourite, independent businesses based in and around Cardiff.

  1. The Wine, Beer, Coffee & Chocolate Bundle, Hard Lines (£40)

In this bundle you’ll find Hard Lines’ very own bottling of 100% Italian Merlot, paired with a bag of limited edition Christmas blend coffee, a bag of Tony's Chocolonely Tiny Tony’s, and a can of Hard Lines’ Really Really Really Good Beer (4.5% vol.)

  2. Natural Wine Subscription, Wrights Wines (£60 a quarter)

If you used to frequent the cosy wine shop which used to be found on the balcony in Castle Arcade, this quarterly natural wine subscription is for you. Wright pick out 3 of their favourite wines, focusing on what’s drinking exceptionally well, and many are imported directly and hard to find anywhere else. Each delivery comes with a digital booklet to help you get to know the wines, and a suggestion of what you might want to eat with them too.

  3. The ‘Christmas with a Twist’ Six, Wine Fiend (£120)

Wine Fiend have chosen six wines that go against the grain, but will still pair well with your festive meal - including a lovely natural Pet Nat, and a Vermouth Rosso (perfect for making a Negroni Sbagliato… with Prosecco in it).

  4. The Wined & Grind Box, Chilled & Tannin (£60)

Take your pick from Red, White or Mixed wines. You’ll get three premium sustainable wines - and thanks to a collab with Little Man Coffee - three 250g bags of premium coffee from a roster of over 25 indie roasters (pop a message in the order notes if you want your coffee ground, or as whole beans). It can all be home delivered via a Carbon Neutral delivery service.

  5. Spanish Wine Club Membership, Spanish Wines Online (£35 per month)

Pay £35 a month, via direct debit, and every quarter you’ll be sent a case of 12 white, red or mixed Spanish wines of your choosing. A great way to experiment with new wines and support smaller winemakers.

  6. Henriot Brut Souverain Champagne Gift Box, Fine Wines Direct (£34.98)

A chardonnay-predominant classic blend, with honeysuckle and brioche notes, and a surprisingly long finish; comes in a wooden presentation box.

  7. Bollinger Rose, Glory Stores (£70)

Bollinger’s Rosé NV is 62% Pinot Noir, 24% Chardonnay and 14% Pinot Meunier, with 5-6% still red wine blended in. Bronzed colour with festive red berry aromas, a hint of spice and a long, lightly tannic finish.

  8. The Wine & Coffee Tee, Sibling (£20)

With the Sibling on the front, and a large format bottle and cup illustration on the back. These tees are hand screen printed in Cardiff, and made from organic ecru cotton.

  9. The Burgundy Wine Bottle Brolly, Vin Van Cymru (£20)

It rains a lot in Wales. Who doesn’t love a novelty umbrella?

  10. Candle, Cava & Cookbook, Mercado 44 (£55)

One of our Bar 44’s lovely scented candles, a bottle of Vilarnau Limited Edition Gold Brut Cava, and a hardback copy of the Bar 44 cookbook.

And finally…

A Cardiff Wine Passport Gift Voucher (£25)

Treat you or your loved ones to a gift voucher, and use it to purchase a Cardiff Wine Passport in the new year; we’ll be running two separate dates in 2023, and the vouchers will be valid for either.
